Duration and content of the Swiss tailoring apprenticeship
The tailoring, sewing and modeling course lasts 6 months. It provides you with all the knowledge you need for your Swiss tailoring apprenticeship. After completing this training at our Swiss Fashion Academy, you will be able to work independently and design your own patterns. You will be able to sew garments for your customers. You can work on a self-employed basis, but you can also work for a clothing manufacturer as a quality inspector, for example. Working in the field of development is also conceivable.
You learn in small groups at our fashion school. In this way, the respective lecturer is able to deal intensively with each student. This is part of the successful concept of our Swiss Fashion Academy. Learning together with people from different cultures also promotes learning success.
The Swiss tailoring apprenticeship covers both theory and practice. In the theoretical part, you will deal with the fundamental question: What does a tailor actually do?
You will also learn how to use the various sewing machines. You will learn about the individual functions of the household sewing machine, the overlock sewing machine and the zig-zag sewing machine.
Of course, you will also deal with the most common fabrics and learn how to identify them. This also includes learning about the different types of needles and special rulers and templates for modeling garments.
It then continues in practice
This part of the Swiss tailoring apprenticeship deals with zippers, buttons and buttonholes. You will work with leather and other delicate fabrics. Among other things, you will also learn how to sew a hem by hand and learn about cutting.
You will acquire knowledge in the field of sleeve design and their basic design.
